The pediatric cardiac center at Miller Children’s has board-certified pediatric cardiologists and an expert pediatric cardiac care team that covers specialty and supportive care. These experts provide a full-range of pediatric cardiology care, from diagnosis, treatment, surgical care, and extensive post-operative and follow-up care.

Additional Members of the Cardiology CCS Care Team:

Responsible for arranging authorizations for procedures, appointments, special tests and studies and communication among the child, family, school, primary care physician, team and others involved in the care of the child. The nurse specialist also assists the child and family in obtaining medical supplies, laboratory appointments and other care as needed.

Social workers help provide referrals to a broad range of community based agencies and organizations to assist the child and family in obtaining supportive care and assistance. The social worker also is available to provide crisis counseling, individual and family counseling.

Dietitians and nutritionists assess patients’ nutritional needs, develop and implement nutrition programs, and evaluate and report the results. They also confer with doctors and other health care professionals to coordinate medical and nutritional needs.

Child Life Specialists or assistants can help your child better understand his or her condition and treatment while making him or her feel more comfortable during their stay or visit to Miller Children’s.

A diagnostic cardiac sonographer uses ultrasound to assess a person's cardiovascular system in a noninvasive technique called echocardiography.

 

Fetal Heart Care Team

Pediatric cardiologists work closely with the MemorialCare Center for Women's maternal fetal specialists (high-risk pregnancy doctors), to accurately diagnosis a fetal heart defect and plan the appropriate course of treatment and delivery for mom.
