Rossmoor PastriesRossmoor Pastries is well-known throughout the community as the family destination for birthday, wedding, baby shower and other celebration cakes in the Long Beach community and beyond. What may not be as well-known is that the patients of Miller Children's Hospital Long Beach are often the "happy customers." Patients and their families have been the beneficiaries of Rossmoor Pastries philanthropic efforts, both in-kind and fundraising, for more than 15 years. Patients directly benefit through Rossmoor Pastries donating birthday cakes to children with cancer and other serious blood disorders, when they are unfortunately hospitalized on their birthday. "Miller Children's is one of our favorite charities," says Charles Feder, owner of Rossmoor Pastries. "Giving back is important and hopefully they [the patients] will realize how great it feels to help others; and encourage them to be the next generation of philanthropists." Also, Rossmoor Pastries has organized its own Rossmoor Pastries Cycling Team to help raise funds for Miller Children's through the upcoming Tour of Long Beach. Feder, an avid cyclist himself, jumped at the chance to not only help one of his favorite charities, but also get a chance to exercise. "We want to set a good example and promote exercise and healthy living," says Feder. "It is important for us to ensure that the children of tomorrow are healthy and well and can positively contribute to society." Not only do they raise funds online through their team in support of Miller Children's patients and their families, but they will donate all the cupcakes at the Tour of Long Beach after the ride is complete. |
