Pet Therapy

Pet therapy provides patients at Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach the opportunity to spend time with a friendly companion, which reduces children’s stress. Certified pet therapy dogs visit patients in the playrooms and at patient’s bedside almost daily. More than 10 different furry friends, spend time visiting children, some perform tricks to entertain patients and others are good for a loving hug. For more information about visiting with a pet therapy dog or requesting a pet therapy dog to come to a child’s room, please contact a Child Life Specialist at (562) 933-8060.

Family Pet Visitation

Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach encourages patient and family centered care, including a visit from your beloved family dog. At times, Miller Children’s will allow a family dog to visit a sick child who is in the hospital.

However, there are several parameters to the visit, including the fact that the dog can’t enter the hospital, so the hospitalized child must be well enough to go outside. To request a visit from your family pet, please read the Family Pet Visitation Guidelines and contact the Child Life Department or call (562) 933-8029.
