JJCCC Hematology/Oncology Outpatient Specialty Center

JJCCC’s Hematology/Oncology Outpatient Specialty Center houses all the comprehensive outpatient CCS special care centers and clinics related to pediatric hematology/oncology at the Jonathan Jaques Children’s Cancer Center at Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach. These outpatient centers and clinics are lead by the same board-certified pediatric hematologist/oncologists, comprehensive multidisciplinary care and psychosocial teams these patients would see on the hematology/oncology unit if hospitalized.

There isn’t an easy cure for childhood cancer or other serious blood disorders, but the care team at JJCCC knows the research of today can be the cures of tomorrow for many of their young patients. Therefore, JJCCC is heavily involved with Children’s Oncology Group, a hemophilia registry and other national research consortium’s, such as Therapeutic Advances in Childhood Leukemia (TACL). The clinical and psychosocial research programs at JJCCC is integrated into all five of the primary outpatient care programs, which include hematology/oncology, neuro-oncology, sickle cell, hemophilia and stroke.

Three Designated CCS Centers

California Children’s Services (CCS) is a state program that provides assistance for children with certain chronic and specific illnesses, including cancer and blood disorders. The Jonathan Jaques Children’s Cancer Center at Miller Children’s Hospital has three CCS Centers to provide tertiary care to children with cancer and other serious blood disorders:

Miller Children’s Hospital Stands Apart:

  • JJCCC has a multi-disciplinary care team that follows a cancer or blood disorder patient from the time of admission through follow-up care in the outpatient setting—including pediatric dentists, who help ensure that children’s teeth and gums are not damaged from treatment, such as chemo or radiotherapy.
  • Miller Children’s Hospital has one of the only Stroke Clinics in the region, treating children who suffer from strokes as young as under the age of 1.
  • Through the Late Effects “Star” Program, the JJCCC is following every single one of their former patients for follow-up care and treatment, with former patients returning from outside Southern California at least every two years to participate.
