What to Expect

Following a clinic visit, your child’s doctor may have order tests or procedures. Once the tests and procedures are complete, the doctor will explain your child’s situation and recommend a specific treatment.

  • Diary – After the first visit, the doctor may require the parent to track the child’s seizure, epileptic behavior or headache activity. This is to ensure that the neurology team can accurately address the child’s health care needs and ensure effective treatment.
  • Record Home Videos, if possible – Videos are very helpful in diagnosing certain disorders. Some actions are difficult to describe and videos show the exact movement and behavior which will help the neurologist diagnose the child. Please bring the camcorder to play back the video or have it on a CD-ROM.

If a certain procedure is ordered, the Neurology Center can also put you and your child in touch with a Child Life Specialist who will provide a free pre-procedure orientation. These orientations will help patients understand what to expect while in the hospital, reduce anxiety and provide a tour of the areas they will encounter on the day of the procedure. Any questions you or your child has will be answered. Pre-surgical orientations are available by appointment only.
