The 2010 Southern California "Top Doctors" report is led by the Key Professional Media Group, which conducts research, performs polling and selects physicians for inclusion into the list. Ballets are sent to more than 31,000 medical professionals who were asked to nominate at least one doctor other than themselves, based on, "If you needed medical care, which doctor would you choose?" Panelists reviewed and scored the nominees based on their primary practice area. The physicians included in the "Best Doctors in America" report are determined via an extensive peer-review process by thousands of doctors across the nation, which is conducted by Boston-based Best Doctors, Inc. Doctors are asked a series of questions such as, "If you or a loved one needed a doctor in your specialty, which would you refer them to?" The unique strength of "Best Doctors" is that a physician must be nominated by a current honoree to be considered for inclusion into the report and only currently selected Best Doctors are eligible to vote.
