Terry Chin, M.D. Receives 2010 Munzer Award For Leading Asthma Research
Colleagues, families and patients acknowledge and appreciate Dr. Chin’s excellent clinical skills. In addition to his patient care, he devotes time to education and research. He has more than 40 grants, resulting in the publication or presentation of more than 100 journal articles, slides and posters. Through his research efforts, Dr. Chin has helped make Miller Children’s recognized as the only center in Southern California and the fourth in the country to be awarded a grant for a clinical research study investigating an oral drug that can potentially improve the status of patients with nonsense-mutation cystic fibrosis (CF). Centers were selected on the basis of their potential to successfully participate in a world-wide study that involves more than 200 patients greater than 6 years of age. “I feel very honored to be chosen to receive this award,” says Dr. Chin. “The importance of medical education and research is paramount to how we deliver care to patients and their families.” Currently, Dr. Chin serves as attending staff in the Pulmonary, Cystic Fibrosis, Allergy and Asthma Center and he is also the associate director of the Cystic Fibrosis Center. He also has two board certifications: diplomate, American Board of Pediatrics and diplomate, American Board of Allergy and Immunology. Terry W. Chin, MD, PhD was selected by the Blue Ribbon Committee – a committee made of up of the physician’s peers – to be the 2010 Munzer Family Award recipient. The Munzer award is presented annually and recognizes physicians for excellence in teaching and research at Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach.
