Diabetes Education Program

The general pediatrics care team, including the nurse educator team, helps children with diabetes lead healthy and active lives and decrease the need for hospitalization or missed days at school through education and successful diabetes management. The diabetes education program will provide:

  • Education on Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes
  • Guidelines about carbohydrate counting and healthy eating habits
  • Educate on the importance of exercise
  • Training on administering insulin through a pump or a pen
  • Answers to your diabetes questions and offer support for concerns you may have
  • Support and help you learn how to navigate through the health care system and coordinate care with your child's primary care provider, the Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolic Outpatient Specialty Center and other members of the health care team

Patient and Family Education

Ask a member of the care team if there are any educational materials you can bring home to learn about your child’s illness and how to manage it or visit the Health Library. There are also special educational materials available to you through your nurse educator in the General Pediatrics Units and the Family Resource Center.
