Dr. Seth Kogan, an obstetrician who has delivered countless healthy babies, has seen it all. He has delivered babies with no complications and has been a part of the “high-risk pregnancy team” that works so diligently to ensure the safe delivery of premature and critically ill babies. Often times, these high-risk pregnancies are delivered through emergency surgery and the moms aren’t able to be with their child right away. This is a time when new moms need privacy and comfort the most and don’t often get it considering the current layout of the unit.
In semi-private rooms “significant others” cannot spend the night. Dr. Kogan knows this is an issue that needs to be addressed. As chair of the MemorialCare Center for Women’s Expansion Initiative, he appreciates the importance of enhancing and updating the Center’s perinatal and maternity unit.
The Initiative will fund renovations and new construction to increase the number of private rooms from 10 to 32 and the number of labor and delivery rooms to 20.
Margaret Herman, RN, BSN, executive director, MemorialCare Center for Women “We need a comfortable, accommodating facility that is a reflection of the excellent care provided by our physicians and nurses. The expansion will offer just that.”
The MemorialCare Center for Women’s physicians are leading the philanthropic effort to support the Initiative. “My grandfather instilled in our family – its not what you have but what you want to give,” Dr. Kogan says. Many physician philanthropists, including Michael Nageotte, MD, medical director, MemorialCare Center for Women, and his wife Monica Leff, MD, joined Dr. Kogan.
Dr. Nageotte says, “I felt very passionate about supporting this important initiative, and I strongly believe my community and patients will benefit from the expansion.”
