What to Expect
The Renal Center will also put you and your child in touch with a Child Life Specialist who will provide a free pre-surgery orientation. These orientations will help pediatric patients understand what to expect while in the hospital, reduce anxiety and provide a tour of the areas they will encounter on the day of their renal procedure. Any questions you or your child has will be answered. After the TransplantAfter transplant, the child will be cared for by the transplant team at the referred hospital to ensure a successful acceptance of the new kidney. Depending on the child’s acuity, two follow-up appointments will occur weekly for one month after transplant and then the number of visits is reduced depending on the child’s needs and recovery rate. Following a clinic visit, your child’s doctor may have ordered tests or procedures. Once the tests and procedures are complete, the doctor will explain your child’s situation and recommend a specific treatment.
