Injury PreventionUnintentional injuries are the leading cause of death in American children ages 1 to 14, which is larger than all other childhood diseases combined. Most injuries are predictive and preventable. Miller Children’s Hospital Long Beach believes in the importance of advocating for children’s health and safety in the Long Beach community and beyond. The most common reason why children come to the Trauma Center through the Emergency Department, is because they were struck by a vehicle while walking, riding a bike, or riding a skateboard. Kohl's Cares for KidsWith the help of the safety coalition and community partners, Miller Children’s works to prevent the child from ever needing our care due to an unnecessary accident. Miller Children's Hospital Long Beach has partnered with Kohl's in the Kohl's Keeping Kids Safe Program. Through this partnership, Kohl's helps Miller Children's support their car seat initative (ensuring no child leaves the hospital without a car seat) and helps Miller Children's safety team purchase helmets for children in the community. Throughout the year, Kohl's hold promotional opportunities in their store, with proceeds benefiting these programs. Keeping Parents InformedThe health library has informational packets, created by the health care teams and safety coalition that will help keep your child aware of ways to prevent themselves from being in unintentional accidents or injury.
