What is Developmental Pediatrics?

Developmental pediatrics provides evaluation and treatment for infants and children who are at risk for developmental or feeding problems due to birth defects or other special needs conditions.

What is Developmental Delay?

Slower rate of development for a child or occuring later than usual. A child with a developmental delay functions at a level below other children of the same age.

What are Craniofacial Anomalies?

Craniofacial anomalies are a group of deformities in the growth of the head and facial bones. Anomaly is a medical term for "irregularity." Craniofacial anomalies are congenital birth defects, meaning they are present at birth. Some are mild and other anomalies are more severe and require surgery.

Support Programs

The Stramski Children’s Developmental Center at Miller Children’s Hospital knows that having a child with special needs can be difficult for any family and that the transition into schools, as well as social interaction can be challenging. There are many outside support programs and agencies that can support your child’s developmental needs.

• The Stramski Children’s Developmental Center works closely with the Early Start Program which helps the child and their families make an easy and smooth transition to school by coordinating and providing additional care to the child and family. Teams of service coordinators help evaluate and assess the infant or child and provide appropriate early intervention services.
• The Stramski Children’s Developmental Center also works closely with local schools and school districts to help the child and family make a better transition and gain access to special resources that the child may need during school.
