What To Expect

Following a clinic visit, your child’s doctor may have order tests or procedures. Once the tests and procedures are complete, the doctor will explain your child’s situation and recommend a specific treatment.

  • X-rays, specialized hearing tests and other diagnostic procedures may require a visit outside of the Surgical Outpatient Specialty Center. Your child’s doctor will explain and provide details and instructions

If a surgery is recommended by the doctor, you and your child will meet with a surgery scheduler who will walk you through the procedure, expectations you can expect as well as provide instructions.

The surgery scheduler will also put you and your child in touch with a Child Life Specialist who will provide a free pre-surgery orientation. These orientations will help pediatric patients understand what to expect while in the hospital, reduce anxiety and provide a tour of the areas they will encounter on the day of surgery. Any questions you or your child has will be answered. Pre-surgical orientations are available by appointment only.
