The Pediatric Rehabilitation Clinic at Miller Children’s Rehabilitation Outpatient Specialty Center provides specialty rehabilitation care for infants, children and adolescents, with cognitive and developmental disorders. Many children seen in this center have autism spectrum disorders, brain injury, cerebral palsy, developmental delay, feeding/swallowing disorders, muscle weakness or need post-inpatient (hospitalized) rehab care. The Rehabilitation Clinic specialized care team also works closely with other pediatric specialists if consultation is needed.
The Rehabilitation CCS Clinic provides treatment to a wide range of children with special needs. The rehab team meets to review clinical cases and make recommendations on the type of therapy and care that is most appropriate for each patient. The Rehabilitation Clinic care team discusses all treatments and services with the family to decide on appropriate treatments that are available for their child.
The Rehabilitation Center care team offers a collaborative approach to medical care, including assessment, academic teaching, case management and discharge planning. Child life specialists, specialty physicians, psychology, neuropsychology, nursing, nutrition and social work are all an active part of the rehabilitation clinic care team and collaborate with the rehab core team to provide optimum care and improve each child’s individual needs and condition.
The Rehabilitation Clinic offers many pediatric outpatient group treatment programs to help further develop skills such as feeding groups, physical therapy developmental groups, social skills groups and a speech/occupational therapy group. Parents and families are also provided with follow-up “homework” to work on skills at home with their child, to help their child continue to progress after treatment.
The Rehabilitation Center at Miller Children’s is a California Children’s Services (CCS) approved
Special Care Center (SCC). This means a specially designated multi-disciplinary care team is responsible for all care coordination and case management of a patient in this program. Patients typically qualify for the Rehabilitation CCS Special Care Center by medical diagnosis, complexity of their disease and
financial status.
